The Antonov Automatic Drive is a low-cost, low-weight concept offering high fuel efficiency. It is capable of universal application, not limited to any engine torque category. It uses conventional components and current manufacturing technologies, allowing existing transmission plants to produce it. Its strong and uncontested patent position suggests that the AAD is perhaps the only fundamentally new technology in the transmission field for the last 50 years.

The attractiveness of automatic transmissions is rising in parallel with growing driver stress and ?life pressures?. Congestion is increasing, average driving speeds are dropping and gear changes per kilometer are rising. The market is ready for a sensibly-priced automatic transmission that can be rewardingly profitable to its maker. Only one concept meets that requirement: the Antonov AAD.
The Initial Concept
At the heart the Antonov AAD is a brilliantly simple idea. Gear changes are made using forces that are naturally occurring in the transmission, forces which replace the high energy consuming components of current automatics.
One force is the Axial thrust generated by meshing helical gear teeth that seeks to disengage the gears axially along their shafts. The other is the Centrifugal force created by all rotating bodies. The functioning is best understood if this balance between centrifugal force and axial thrust is followed in the example of the clutch.
In Acceleration torque is applied to the input shaft. The axial thrust from the ring gear keeps the clutch open and there is a rotation speed reduction, creating first gear.

Antonov in non-exclusive licence deal with Honda Motor
Antonov PLC said it signed a non-exclusive licence agreement with Honda Motor Co, under which Honda may use Antonov's patents world-wide.
The companies have also signed a separate technical services agreement.

The **eight-speed automatic transmission 1 can be changed into a five-speed, six-speed or seven-speed automatic transmission by properly changing the timing of changing the condition of the hydraulic clutch 27. For example, if the hydraulic clutch 27 is disengaged at proper time before the first centrifugal clutch 17 is engaged in upshifting the automatic transmission 1 from the first speed to the second speed, the second speed is skipped and the automatic transmission 1 can be upshifted from the first speed to the third speed. Similarly, the automatic transmission 1 can be upshifted from the fifth speed to the seventh speed, skipping the sixth speed. Thus, the automatic transmission 1 is able to function as a six-speed automatic transmission............................
Although the invention has been described as applied to the automatic transmission 1 for the FF vehicle, having the two parallel shafts, i.e., the input shaft 2 and the support shaft 3, the present invention is applicable to an automatic transmission for a front-engine rear-drive (FR) vehicle,......

The eight-speed automatic transmission 1 can be changed into a five-speed, six-speed or seven-speed automatic transmission by properly changing the timing of changing the condition of the hydraulic clutch 37. For example, if the hydraulic clutch 37 is kept engaged even if the automatic transmission 1 is set for the second speed and the traveling speed of the vehicle increases, the third speed is skipped and the automatic transmission is upshifted from the second speed to the fourth speed. ......................

HONDA - During the last ten years Antonov and Honda have collaborated
closely. We have produced several prototypes for them and Honda now have an
in-depth understanding of our technology and its potential and no longer
requires any technical input from Antonov with respect to the four-speed AAD.
Honda has reported that that they are actively continuing with development of a
four-speed AAD and also that they are investigating other applications for this
technology. Honda traditionally maintains a high degree of secrecy about the
timing of any market launch of a new product and this will also be true for any
product containing Antonov technology. We are however hopeful that Honda will
launch a new product containing our technology in the near future
read this! ..... interesting!

Honda is developing a six speed AT (Base = Antonov patents), 5-8 speed AT (4-speed AT).
Who can give us more information (when?!? / small cars? mini cars? larger cars? also Acura models?...... ??

When you type (=> GOOGLE): "Roumen Antonov" or "Antonov Honda", etc. You'll find more information.
