"Is there such a thing as inner beauty in a sport-utility vehicle? We're not talking beautiful interiors here, because there are plenty of those, especially if you have fifty large or more to throw at a vehicle. We're talking true inner worth that might not burn ripples of neck strain upon entrance, but becomes apparent with daily exposure. If so, the Honda Pilot could very well be the inner beauty poster child, the Cinderella of the SUV ball. It's not the prettiest around (interior-wise or from the curb), but it'll provide lots of 'happily ever after.' "
"The Pilot's older sibling (and fraternal mechanical twin) is the Acura MDX, which came out two years before the new-for-2003 Pilot but still boasts a more striking physique, if a quick office poll is any indication. The Pilot is by no means ugly, but its Lego-like shape is heavy on the right angles. This boxy silhouette might not win many beauty contests, but it is great for maximizing the useable cargo space inside. Plus, after a few years as most of us can unhappily attest, outward appeal tends to gradually fade."
