As you can see, this new engine performs pretty well, delivering nearly 180horsepower to the wheels. At a measured 179whp at 6000rpm, it's only coming up 6hp shy of its flywheel rating (185hp@6400rpm). Peak torque rings in at over 170lb-ft at 3700rpm, which also compares quite favorably to its flywheel rating of 181lb-ft@3900rpm). So yeah, it seems that Honda's Earth Dreams 4-cylinder engines are also underrated to some extent.

Plot #1 - 2013 Accord EX 6MT Sedan

Notes: For whatever reason, the dynojet lost the RPM readings above 6500rpm, but the fuel cutoff actually appears to be around 7100rpms. Horsepower and torque had peaked prior to 6500 so there's not much missing from this curve. The torque and horsepower peak a little earlier on the dynojet than on Honda's spec sheet. On the street and on the dyno video you can hear the VTEC switch from the low lift cams to the high lift cams at approximately 4800 rpms. The torque curve is wonderfully flat and broad, which provides this car with excellent in-gear acceleration

Plot #2 - 2013 Accord EX 6MT Coupe vs 2012 Acura TSX SE 6MT

Notes: Here we are comparing the Accord to its closest K24Z cousin, which is the K24Z3 found in the 2nd generation Acura TSX. The K24Z3 lacks the K24W1's direct injection, but the K24Z3 runs a similar compression ratio and is rated at 201hp. For this dyno test, we tested with regular 87 octane unleaded in the Accord and the 2012 TSX SE was tested with 93 octane premium unleaded at an earlier date.

The K24W1 nearly matches the K24Z3's peak power while surpassing the K24Z3 to the tune of 10lb-ft in peak torque. As the curves show, the K24W1 delivers 10-20b-ft more torque pretty much everywhere in the rev band. As a result, the horsepower curve closely mirrors the K24Z3s, but it is shifted to the left on the RPM axis by about 400rpm. The only reason the K24Z3 pips the K24W1 in peak output is because it makes a late surge from 6500rpm to the 7300rpm rev limiter, but from 5000-6500rpm the Accord's K24W1 is up by roughly 15-20hp vs the TSX's K24Z3, and you can certainly feel this advantage on the road.
