Thoughts on the race...

Well, going back to my original questions that I posed in the Prixview, let's analyze the race weekend, shall we?

Key Questions:
1. Will Bridgestone provide tires that work well for the rest of their teams or just Ferrari?
2. Will Michelin have another strong Italian GP?
3. Will Honda keep their power levels up and gain reliability before Monza?
4. Will David Hobbs say "BMW Powah" any fewer than 300 times during the course of the Speed Channel coverage? =)

Key Answers:
1. Bridgestone's tires seemed to have good consistency throughout the weekend. That's about all the praise I feel like "heaping" on them. It is becoming increasingly evident that Bridgestone's ONLY real customer is Ferrari. The other teams have to cross their fingers each weekend and hope that the tires will work well for their cars as well.

2. Michelin brought tires to Monza that were grippy and strong. All of their runners ran well especially Jaguar's "Swerve" Irvine, who netted a podium placing, and Jarno Trulli who finished 4th after starting from the back of the grid for getting away too slowly on the formation lap!!! Well done boys!!

3. It appears that the spec 2.5 engine that was introduced in Spa and improved in testing has been able to attain the reliability that Honda wants while providing competitive power. The evolution spec 3 engine was used by Fisichella and Villeneuve during Qualifying and immediately showed that it has a definite improvement in power over the 2.5! Hopefully more of these engines will be ready for race duty in the US Grand Prix in a week!

4. Well, regardless of if Monsieur Hobbs said "BMW Powah" during the weekend, Williams-BMW had a weekend to forget. After putting cars in P1 and P3 during qualifying, they had one engine fail on lap 4 (Ralf) and the other retire with what may have been suspension failure on or around lap 35. They showed great pace, but couldn't bring it home in the end.
