2002 SEMA Las Vegas

This concept Accord coupe was a real looker in person. The most striking aspect was the front end, with an F1 inspired lower bumper treatment, and a very S2000ish headlight look. The rear features a modest diffuser and an exhaust system fully integrated into the rear bumper (yes we looked). The top of the car is painted black to help visually lower the appearance. From a performance perspective, a prototype sequential paddle shift transmission is actuated by steering wheel paddles, while 15" front brake rotors slow the beast. While this car won't see production, hopefully some of the elements will make it into use somewhere.

One look at the front intercooler tells you something special is going on here. Honda claims 230 hp from this car. What was particularly interesting was the instrument display. What looks like a video game is actually a fully functional and user configurable electronic dash. The display is a Kenwood unit driven by a Mugen control system. Now that the CL-S has a proper transmission (that would be the 6-spd manual), Acura has given us a step up in the looks department with the prototype factory performance package for the CL. Final bits and pieces are still be tweaked (the wheels for one), but we like the stylish exhaust setup, the lower ride height and the long, lean look of the car.
