Is this just a TSX body or is it really a FWD race car?

I like watching rally car races when I come across them on TV, so it is interesting to see that Dodge will have an AWD Dart to compete in Rally races. As much as a new S2000 would be something I would own, or a RWD 3-series competitor should be a no brainer for Acura, a rally car to show off SH-AWD would be a thriller. Those races are so hard on a car, I know they are not much like what we could buy at the dealership, it is the macho competition to me.

It's FWD. No that different from what you can buy at the factory (compared to series like Nascar).

FWD cars have been used for any years in racing, especially rally racing. In a series like British Touring cars the FWD cars more than hold their own.

FWD race cars are rather common... in fact, the various Honda cars in various series have been kicking RWD butts for some time now.

FWD cars have been dominating touring cars for awhile. The Chevy Cruz comes to mind in WTCC (and before that it was the Seats). the FWD hondas in BTCC have dominated for the last two years. Honda will contest WTCC fulltime next year with a FWD euro civic.

I know, FWD, imagine that.

If you listen to all the hacks reviewing cars at Car and Driver, Motor Trend, internet fanboys, they all tell you they got to be RWD.

And look at the results.

Seems I read the Civic Mugen Type R-R sedan was holds a Honda record on the Suzuka track. No, not an S2000 or NSX, but the Civic.

Where did you read that? While the Mugen RR is pretty awesome, it's not in the same class as an NSX-R. Probably is faster than an S2000.

Still, the point remains that there are some quick FWD cars out there.

Folks would tell you a lot of it is down to barely street-legal tires... but there is Best Motoring footage out there that showed a "regular" Civic Type-R putting down a faster lap than an NSX Type-S. In a "sprint race" of 3 or 5 laps (can't remember), the Type-R was far superior to even cars like the 350Z, and was only overtaken by the NSX Type-S near the end. Certainly the Type-R was cornering better...

Yea, in one of the Best Motoring videos, the posted the Suzuka laptimes of the FD2 Civic R, NSX Type S, RX7 FD, Evo, STi, R34 GT-R, and the Civic was faster than all of them (though i was only a few tenths faster than the 1997 NSX-S).

The sprint races were 5-lap races on Tsukuba. Some of the races, the Civic used barely street-legal tires. And with those tires, the Civic would be keeping up with cars like the 400+hp M3. Even with its regular RE050 tires, the Civic still has no problem keeping up with cars with much more power.
