06 Si Brakes for Track Use    (Score: 1, Normal) 08-26-2016 22:34

I track my Si regularly and have stock brake set up except pads. I do have a supercharger and go through a set of Carbotechs a weekend. The last set bent the backing plate on the piston side on both sides so no more Carbotechs. I was wondering is there a bolt on 2 or 4 piston caliper for this vehicle? Also what pads are good that last for heavy/long track days. Anyone have experience with Project Mu Club Racers? The rears are just there for the ride. Any info would help.

I race a Integra R with stock brakes and use Cobalt XR3 in front and XR5 pads in rear. The pads grip very well, last well and are very easy on stock cast iron rotors. By far the best pads I've come across in 30 years of racing.

I had the same experience with carbotechs, they wore very quickly. Cobalts are pricey but get about 5 races a set of fronts and 10 weekends for the rears. I would recommend trying a pair before moving to custom brakes.

Thanks for the info, I have seen Colbalts and will give them a try. All race pads are expensive, I don't mind spending the money as long as they work, last, and easy on rotors. Glad to know other people have had the same issue with Carbotechs.

I wouldn't use any other pad. My application is SCCA Improved touring R class. Works great on tracks with 120 straight speed with 50 mph turns. Brainerd, Road America are examples.

The present set of pads has done 5 1 hour race days, all at tough tracks for brakes. PS, I find generic rock auto rotors work just fine. Looking forward to your review. good luck

Where do you buy them from? I have read they take 8 weeks.

I got them direct from cobalt. My last set showed up in about a week. Give them a call and ask. http://www.cobaltfriction.com/default.asp

I was reading on another forum to use acura tsx calipers and rotors with a tl-s master cylinder. The rotors are thicker and the pads are bigger. This is suppose to bolt up w/o much issues.

I think the TL type S brakes with multi piston monoblock caliper also are a possible add on. That's what was in my buddy's Civic Si World challenge car.

Though, you might compare your present rotors with the type R rotors. If they are about the same, they may be adequate for what you are doing.....

Update: I did the TSX caliper and rotor swap with the master cylinder. Very easy, however I had to use an adapter to the master cylinder lines. I do have an USA car but very early production. I went with Raybestos ST-43 pads and tracked the car. The pads had little to no wear and the stopping power/modulation was fantastic. This is a great upgrade and wish I had done this years ago. From Carbotech to Raybestos Raybestos is 10 fold better. Thanks Road Race for your help.
