Formula 1 travels to the brightly-lit streets of Marina Bay in Singapore for its only true night race. This street circuit has the unique distinction of having more turns than any other circuit on the F1 calendar, 23, and a 100% probability [to-date] of a safety car deployment. It is also known for hot and humid weather conditions that challenge both man and machine.

Toro Rosso enter the weekend buoyed by the prospects of racing on circuit that is less power-dependent, especially after not being as far behind as some feared on the recent 'power circuits’. One car in Q3 and one car in the points is a real possibility. The only reasons to hedge on a double points finish would be Brendon Hartley’s first time on the Marina Bay Circuit and the likelihood of a safety car which puts everyone at risk.

Elsewhere on the grid, what appeared to be a noticeable Ferrari advantage has been given away by driver errors and poor strategy calls. We have to assume that Singapore will be an unpredictable battle between Mercedes and Ferrari. After several tough races at the recent “power” circuits, Red Bull will be hungry to put themselves at the front of the pack; so expect one Red Bull on the podium. From there we can expect a Renault and a Haas battling it out for best-of-the-rest with the latter hoping it has solved low-speed issues with it’s aero package. Expect a Sauber and a Force India to be challenging each other for the next spots. McLaren will attempt to be a spoiler to that battle and they just might do it with Alonso at the wheel on a circuit like this. One, if not both, Williams will be bringing up the rear.

It looks like the possibility of a wet weekend, with thunderstorms, at the Singapore GP - particularly, with higher chance and the amount of precipitation on Saturday and Sunday!

Link: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/sg/weather/-/singapore?wx_auto_reload=

So the chance of an unpredictable result for the race has gone up a few notches beyond just the chances of the safety car being deployed!

Go Toro Rosso-Honda! Go! Go! Go! :-)

In reality keep it clean for the opening laps and see if we can get two cars in the top ten !!

If ot wrong, Alonso already knows the fate... he wants to go full Nascar!!! (the only way for him not to be beaten or not to drive a Honda engined car :).)

With his 24 hours lemans win... He should be supported by Toyota to drive a Nascar, but I do not think Nascar drivers will accept him so easily. ..

That's the best GP to find both Ricciardo win it and a TR on the podium.

For once I will cross fingers that Ricciardo engine does not blow.

Also the only chance for Alonso to score the last points of his F1 career...

Kimi to Sauber???? They should have kicked Vettel ("bwwlue flag!).

Do not get how a Magnusen or Grosjean keep their ride when a talent like Occon will be kicked out of F1...

Thunderstorms means too much water drops? Pirelli tyres are real crap under heavy rain (compared to the Bridgestone or Michelin of years ago). All pilots complained about them, it would mean safety car (even without crashes...).

Sounds not right but I would prefer a half dry race with just some rains, and not a storm.

Are you sure you haven't had a few? Alonso in NASCAR? Wanting Ricciardo's engine to blow (on other occasions)? Saying Magnussen shouldn't have a seat after a fantastic year he's put in?

Well, Friday practice is completed...

It seems our boys need to eat more carrots so they can see a lot better and sharper with those bright lights at night at the Singapore GP circuit!

It appears Gasly may need to eat an extra carrot or two since he has been outperformed, just slightly, by his team-mate Hartley...

Hartley and Gasly in 17th & 18th position respectively (only in front of the Williams)! Maybe they did not fully commit to a lot of qualifying runs to save tyres for later in the weekend!??

Nevertheless, lots of laps (74 in FP2 and 55 in FP1) completed and lots of data gathered to analyse. Hopefully, they will improve their competitiveness for the rest of the weekend.

Come on Toro Rosso-Honda - lets go, Go, GO! ;-)

U experimented pilots also, last year Sainz finished P4 with the Toro Rosso (same base/chassis basics as last year). They just need to find a good setup. I m afraid Ricciardo will be miss at Redbull next year.

PS : fuck Renault that is said.

FP3 completed...

Gasly (14th) improves his laptime by almost a second however, Hartley (remains in 17th position for all three practices) does not improve at all...

Humm...!?

There does not seem (anymore) to be any rain coming for Qualifying or for the race... so less unpredictable!

Sigh!

We will know how the Red Bull teams perform for Qualifying soon enough...

Lets keep battling hard (Red Bull drivers) all the way to the chequered flag on Sunday!!!

... and hopefully there will be some unexpected but nevertheless very pleasing results! Yeah to that! ;-)

Guess what?

Gasly makes it through to Q2! Woohooooo!

Hartley, 'Mr. consistent'(-ly slow)... should change his car number from '28' to '17' since all weekend he has ended up 17th in FP1, FP2, FP3 and Qualifying!!! LOL

BTW, Ricciardo, who we all know is (mistakenly) leaving Red Bull, is showing some pace compared to others... even beating his team-mate, Verstappen, by... almost 0.6s in Q1!

Let's crack some wip Gasly in Q2!

Yes, clearly behind however, in the same Q1, actually 0.6-0.7s behind Renault and McLaren.

Well, he's 0.2s off Gasly. Not massive, but as usual he's a bit unlucky in that it puts him the wrong side of the cut-off. Not a great quali for STR overall.

Anyone surprised (with Vettel's pole record at this circuit)?

Hamilton takes pole! Congratulation!

Verstappen, takes second and is on the front row.

Vettel could only manage third and has Bottas next to him on the second row.

Raikkonen (5th) and Ricciardo (6th) complete third row.

Lets see what happens at the start and in the (expected to be dry) race tomorrow.

Anyway...

Go Toro Rosso-Honda! Go! Go! GOOOOOOOO! :-)

Yes, I noticed that too.

Hartley has definitely improved his performance relative to his team-mate... however, he is still slower.

Hartley main goal for the rest of the season should be to continue to improve his F1 racing craft... and strive to beat his team-mate in a few races - that might give STR the best chance at a double points finish! Yeah!
