I figured Ford would push the EcoBoost motors into the SuperDuty realm. Nope, they come back with a port-injected, push-rod 7.3 V8 as an all new gas motor.

Big Block no less, which fits in the same space as the Coyote. This is great news!!!

Hopefully this trickles down to the Raptor!

What a ridiculous time to be alive.

Not to mention that in that same C&D article, they expect the Ford 6.7 diesel to push over 1000 ft-lbs too.

:D

I remember when our then 32-tonners used to struggle along with 200-240 BHP and found your slightly heavier Class 8s astounding with a mere NTA350 Cummins, let alone a KTA600!

Amazing to think that they can get from a 6.7 litre what they used to get from a 14-litre.

Mind you, the N-series would go on for years if looked after. It was bloody heavy.

Commercial market is always looking for serviceability and simplicity, honestly. The gas engine makes a lot of sense with emissions hitting the "mid" (F450-F750) size market.

I think it's also supposed to be a replacement for their Triton V10...

Indeed; it's very wary of anything new-fangled or complicated or unusual.

Case in point when Bedford tried to sell heavies with the well-proven Detroit Diesel 71 and 92 series; no-one wanted one of those weird two-stroke things.
