I found the answer for solving EUs horrible car lineup    (Score: 1, Normal) 03-15-2019 17:09

As I was looking through some websites this week, i stumbled over an german car exporter with a business in Fukuoka Japan. The guy uploads lots of interesting videos if you're into JDM and it turns out, that several years ago, he married his japanese gf in Germany and then moved to Japan, where his father in law got him a job at Honda (since he's car mechanic of profession). As the years passed by, he opened up his own shop from the money he saved and now has several german and japanese employees, plus working with importers from Europe and elsewhere.

After I returned from Japan, I got myself an 3rd Gen Prius, which seemed to be the better bet over the 2nd Gen Honda Insight. But looking for an followup for my 2009 Hybrid, there is nothing on the Horizon either at Toyota Europe, nor at Honda Europe. They are all celebrating the same bullshit religion of Super-Useless-Vehicles.

Back to the shop that I've mentioned, it turns out they're workign with an japanese company which does RHD to LHD conversions.

Can't express how awesome this is, as now I can get my hands on the Japan lineup with it's rich selection of MPVs. Chances are high that my next car will be the Honda Freed IMA Hybrid that I've been hoping for since years.

Can you import JDM cars into the EU?

What you really, truly need, is a Ridgeline BE-R with the Hondata chip and latest turbos.

You can haul ass to Munich and still carry the most beer. Those 911s can't carry shit and the Prius will still be North of Manheim by the time you start tapping into the kegs of beer in the bed of Das Gratlinie.

Yes you can import JDM cars into the EU. Currently you have to pay a tariff, but soon this will be history. How about the US?

Do you work for ISIS, or why you recommend the Ridgeline? ;)

Nope mate, the Freed Hybrid is the king! "Man Maximum Machine Minimum". With a Mugen Kit, it looks even more space ship than a prius and you can make use of electric sliding doors.

Importing anything into the US is a royal PITA because of the EPA and our "unique" requirements.

If I were working for ISIS, I'd be recommending a Toyota Technical with a 50mm gun mount on the bed. Not much room for beer... do ISIS warriors drink beer?

The way things are going in the Western EU, though, the Wehrmacht soon will transition to an all Toyota Technical mounted infantry... think what that portends.

Taking a Freed with about the power of our 2G Fit Sport but with an extra couple hundred pounds of weight onto the Autobahn. I don't think I'd be interested in doing that.

I've been a fan of compact sporty cars dating back to the first of the Datsun Z-cars but modern long distance, Interstate speed driving in the US starts for me with the turbo Civic range. Especially with the left lane crazy train folks these days driving Escalade class trucks.

This is what millions of people do, when they are taking their Diesel MPVs like Touran & others on the Autobahn. The Freed is equipped with the 1.5L LEA engine, which has the same power as the 1.3L variant, but notably more torque. Along with the electric motor it provides around 170Nm of torque from start on.

As you can see, with 12:34sec 0-100km/h it also falls perfectly into the region of Diesel powered MPVs and i can tell you we have plenty of them on our Autobahn.

Btw, you don't need a downsizing Asthma-Civic to have fun, especially since the latest Turbo civic is anything but compact anymore. The good old UFO Civic has all the fun with it's 1.8L NA engine
