Sunroof delete option?    (Score: 1, Normal) 03-23-2019 17:18

Does anyone else wish there were a ‘sunroof delete’ option? It would add some headroom for taller drivers, and decrease weight (50-80 lbs for standard sunroof). They can sometimes cause expensive problems down the road as well.

You must get a sunroof if you want leather and other high end trim levels on pretty much all Honda / Acura products. I know it’s an economies of scale thing – but it would be really nice to at least have the delete option.

The Audi Q5 is the only SUV / crossover I'm aware of that allows you to delete the sunroof on the higher end trims. I wish more manufacturers would follow suit to at least have the option for this.

If you order a new Si for example, there are no available variations from the standard factory features, only dealer installed items.

With this packaged approach, I would be very surprised to see Honda offer a sunroof delete on some models.

I've never had a problem with a modern, factory sunroof - and if you never plan to use it to the point you want to delete it, you'll be even less likely to ever have a problem, and 50 lbs on a CR-V is of no consequence whatsoever.

So no, not a huge wish here.

The only thing that bugs me about Honda's option levels is that they save their BSD for extremely high trims. Saving safety features for so high in trim levels in expensive cars - ie, you have to go all the way to a Touring to get blind spot detection in both a Pilot or Passport in Canada - is really pretty poor.

Any weight remove at the very top of the vehicle will make some difference.. just imo

I absolutely agree, I wish there was a sunroof delete option, and would pay a premium for it.

For me it's about the headroom. I use my sunroof on occasion, but I'd use the added headroom of not having a sunroof every time I get the in the car.

Unfortunately, even if manufacturers started offering this, Japanese makers, especially Honda, would be the last ones to do so.

When I got my RAV4 Limited a few years ago, I had to specify I wanted the sunroof. It was an option.

Toyotas have always been more "optionable". Honda just stuff with the Leather=sunroof unless it was "some special edition" trim. We encountered this buying our odyssey back them. The Sienna had a bunch of options to mix and match while honda stuck with te LX/EX/EX-L/Touring and various combos with and without NAV and that was it. IIRC we wanted the EX-L with nav but without RES; unfortunately they didnt build it like that.
