Honda�s European Car Sales Soar by 16.9% in First Quarter 2004

Honda�s car sales in Europe were up 16.9% for the first three months of 2004, with the company increasing sales in every European market.

Figures were boosted by record sales of the new Accord, which rose by 101% on the same period last year to 12,482, and sales of the Jazz, which increased by 26.8% to 18,007. According to ACEA figures the overall European market grew by just 2.9%.

Honda�s biggest selling Civic range also continues to sell strongly with a 5.9% rise to 24,185 in the first quarter. Over the same period, Honda sold a total of 67,784 cars in Europe.

Increased Accord sales are partly the result of the introduction of Honda�s new diesel engine, which now account for over 37% of sales for the model. Across the range, diesel sales have risen to 12% of all Honda�s European sales opposed to just 5.5% at this time last year.

For March, again Accord leads the field with sales up 76.8% to 5,859, Jazz up 21.7% to 9,400 and Civic up 5.7% to 12,823.
