Even before it has gone on sale, the Honda FR-V has won its first major accolade!
Today, the new 3+3 is named "MPV of the Year" by What MPV and 4x4? magazine, Britain’s leading publication for people carriers and 4x4 vehicles.
The magazine rates the Honda above other significant newcomers, including the SEAT Altea, Mitsubishi Grandis, Renault Grand Scenic, Renault Modus and Toyota Corolla Verso. As the judges said, the FR-V is a distinctive and dynamic compact MPV with two rows of three seats and a big boot, all put together to exacting Honda standards.
Editor Bob Murray explains: "The FR-V doesn’t look like any other compact MPV – and that has to be a good thing. Both petrol engines endow this wide but surprisingly wieldy car with a revvy nature and brisk performance to match decent ride and handling. But it’s the cabin that makes this car special. It’s big and open and airy and, with just four people aboard and the middle seats folded, as sociable as a sitting room. Even with six adults on board, legs (if not elbows) have room to spread. The rationale for two rows of three seats – better legroom, access and visibility and unchanging boot space – is as valid as ever, but where the FR-V scores over the Fiat Multipla is in adding user-friendly fold flat seats. In short, the FR-V is a terrific newcomer that deserves to do well."
