According to Bloomberg and CNN/Money, Honda has indicated that Executive Vice President Tom Elliott, 62, will be retiring some time in 2005. His successor will be John Mendel, former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Mazda. Mendel's sudden departure from Mazda was announced last month. At that time it was said that he was headed for an unnamed competitor.
CNN/Money is reporting that Mendel will fill Elliott's role, yet Mendel's title will differ slightly. He will carry the title of senior VP in charge of marketing, advertising, and product planning. His first day at Honda is today, December 1st.
