Kleinubing’s Acura Third in Utah Desert
RealTime places three teammates in Top-Seven
May 19, 2007 – Tooele, Utah
The Podium after today’s SPEED Touring Car Championship race at Miller Motorsports Park in the Utah desert was occupied by the same three drivers, in the same order, who had occupied it two months ago at the season-opening race in Florida.
This time, defending Drivers’ Champion Pierre Kleinubing was only :00.974 seconds away from scoring his second straight win on this 4.486-mile, 24-turn track in his Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles-sponsored Acura TSX prepared by RealTime Racing.
“We really didn’t have anything for the Mazdas,” said Kleinubing, “but with them arguing like they were, I almost had a chance to ruin their day. As they were exchanging places on the last lap, I managed to get some of Randy’s (Pobst) blue paint on my bumper!”
Kleinubing started the race from fourth on the grid, one position ahead of new teammate Kuno Wittmer in an Acura RSX, who, in turn, was one spot ahead of team leader and four-time World Challenge titlist Peter Cunningham in his TSX.
When the checkered flag fell, Wittmer was :02.445 seconds away from the win, in fourth place, his best-ever result in World Challenge competition. Cunningham was :11.553 seconds down in seventh place, behind a pair of BMWs.
Brandon Davis and Nick Esayian had an interesting day after getting cleaned out in a Turn 1 melee at the start. After the dust had settled, the teammates re-fired their TSXs and set out after the pack—which was already five seconds up the road. Without the assistance of any full-course cautions, they had a difficult time, but did well to slice through the field for 10th and 11th place respective finishes.
The Miller race will air on the Speed Channel on a tape-delayed basis on Saturday, May 26th at 100p ET.
The SPEED Touring Car Championship will regroup on May 28 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut where RealTime’s drivers have won seven races.
The RealTime Acura team is sponsored by Acura, Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, buyBrakes.com, Sparco, Hawk Performance, Brembo, A-SPEC, BOSCH, Valley Graphics, Total Auto Body, PACT and A-YES.
