The 2012 model year would normally be the year that a full model change would be due for the CBR1000RR, as the current version debuted in 2008. However, it looks like a dealership in Hong Kong has received a restyled 2012 model CBR1000RR with apparent suspension upgrades, a new LCD gauge cluster (not unlike the cluster on the Ducati 1198/848), and new wheels.
Judging from the pictures of the handle bars, there don't appear to be any extra controls for traction control or selectable engine maps. It is possible that these could be offered as options but chances are we won't be seeing advanced electronics with this refresh.
Updates like these are about what one would expect from a mid model change. So perhaps the skipped 2010 MMC for the 1000RR would have looked something like this, had the world's economy not gone sour. But if this update is coming in 2012, chances are the full model change won't come until 2014 at the earliest.
Another possibility is that Honda is still on track to release an all new V4 homologation-special superbike, and that it focused its resources on developing that bike, instead of an all-new CBR1000RR. One can only hope that is the case. It is hard to believe that companies like Kawasaki and Ducati can come up with the resources to redesign their flagship supersport bikes, but Honda cannot.
